QUOTE ((former)dhlditchdigger @ November 10, 2008 07:12 pm)
The "REAL DHL" went out of business the day the germans bought them. PERIOD...I remember black Tuesday when everyone was shocked at the news. We had been told that the "now Legacy DHL" drivers would end up being lead drivers and sups, so as to train the "Airborne" personel the "DHL" way of doing things. I also remember the laughter from the "Airborne" drivers when they were telling those of us that ended taking positions with the ic's, out of desperation for a check, that the Saturday before we where let go......the Airborne drivers went to our warehouse and transported all the files and supplies and materials to the Airborne facility. Yeah they thought it was pretty funny how we went to work on that Tuesday only to be met in the parking lot by security and were told we could only enter the building after everyone had arrived. The best thing of all was when we questioned them about the whole lead driver and sups lie......I'll never forget it....they said..."Your thinking wrong, Dhl didn't buy Airborne. Airborne didn't buy Dhl. The Germans bought DHL a year ago and now "THE GERMANS" have bought Airborne....and there putting them together. It would be easier for Airborne to absorb DHL than for DHL to absorb Airborne...we don't have the manpower." You can slap a mercedes emblem on a VW Beetle......but that don't make it a mercedes! The germans slapped the DHL brand on Airborne and it didn't make them DHL! Every driver I knew back then said this day would come and here it is. The laughter has stopped now and reality hopefully is settling in......It hasn't been DHL all this time it might as well have been GHL-g for GERMANS. Here's an idea....now that the germans have not only pissed off the original 3000 on black tuesday......they've also pissed off another 9,500 american workers.....lets hit them were it hurts for a change. If every person that's been effected by the GERMANS/DHL makes it there mission in life to tell everyone they know "not to use DHL for anything....not int'l not global mail...nothing!!!" maybe next we will hear that they're pulling out of america all together. One other thing you can slap a TEAMSTER logo on everyone that calls themselves a proffesional driver....but that don't make it so either.

I know no better truth than to know that the dirty rat bastards at DHL are done. Long story short, because of black tuesday i am now secure in a position with the USPS and a no layoff clause in the contract. DHL i give you the middle finger and say, serves you right you rat bastards. Not only did you ruin DHL but you screwed all the old airborne people as well. i hope you are happy becase i sure as hell am!

unsure.gif OK Let me get this straight. The reason for the demise of the company is all the fault of UNION drivers? HUH? I am a proud union driver we get paid what we are worth becuase we fight for our money we dont just walk in and spead our cheeks and say deeper boss deeper!!!! We actually have a backbone unlike you . Did you actually think giving away your service as a PROFESSINAL WELL DRESSED WELL GROOMED DRIVER would somehow make you last longer with the company? The reason DHL bought AIRBORNE is only because the GERMANS had the money and the vision to try and take a small time operation such as yours and try to make it larger and more sucessful in the domestic arena. DHL did not have the operational capacity to do this logistically. They figured they would buy a company that did. AIRBORNE was that company. We had our own airport, airplanes fleet of vehiciles and MANPOWER already in place .However the when the management from DHL got over here THEY WERE OVER THEIR HEADS as were ALL of the LEGACY drivers. They mismanaged the company till the GERMANS could not AFFORD it anymore and now they are being eliminated. SORRY TO SAY THAT INCLUDES MY JOB AS WELL AS YOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!! sad.gif The real enemy is not the assholes who laughed at you but the assholes who are laughing all the way to the bank with their golden parachutes and guaranteed jobs after they slit our throats. The whole plan here is to break the union and get more SUCKERS like you to do the work for a third of what we get. Just remember that when you cash the check SCAB!!!!!!!!

I guess the teamsters can move all you guys over to one of there other accounts now huh? I know there was a time that the unions were a force in America but nowadays it seems like there're fighting against each other. It wasn't too long ago that the AFLCIO members broke apart over what they thought was a mis-direction of union priorities. We voted in the teamsters....nothing happened. DHL wouldn't even let their REP in the building. "he said I'M their REP and the head guy said that's nice....you can't come in." Dhl managed to get a hearing and a second vote to try and get the union voted back out.....we voted them in again....guess what ....."you still can't come in". After that everyone that voted for the union had their hours doubled from 40 to 55-60 hours a week for 40 hours pay (thank you mr.Ic). slowly but surely everyone either got fired, turned away their support for the union, or just like me....moved on to a better job. All the while the union was saying "just hold on we're gonna get them, if you lose your job we will find you one with our other accounts....BS!" I remember it well how the union reps would stand at the end of our very long driveway giving out flyers and pamphlets to our drivers (who had voted them in twice already) because Dhl wouldn't let them on the property. Maybe we where the exception to how the whole union thing is supposed to go I don't know but I gave them all I had and got them voted in twice. lot of good it did. As for you guys that are union and gettin those triple days holiday pay that I've read about go for it! if you can get get it! enjoy it while it last.

I dont know why union reps cant come in and talk to their people. That is strange!! However as far as getting the pay again we fought for it. Along with the vote for the union should have come a need for you to speak to your rep. That should've happened the moment you voted for the union. The union you voted in must not have had enough sense to call the company out. That is a labor charge. The company does not have the right to deny you representation after the employees vote the union in.

I know it was a messed up situation. My mother was UAW and she swears by the union. when we where coming up that union pay and bennies saved our rearends. The workplace has changed somehow know though. It's as if the companies have all figured out how to beat the union at its own game. You can vote them in but your really not safe. They find a way to get you.

i remember those days... it was impossible to unionize dhl back then. anyone suspected of organizing was fired. on some occasions we thought we finally got the union in.... but then the union disappeared. look at what dhl is doing to the union now, they were more vicious at keeping the union out before the merge
